Pump Room, Bath

“Pump Room in the Snow” is a large studio watercolour by my husband Alan Reed based on studies made on location in Bath.

Over the last two years he entered the Bath Prize, a painting competition  held annually in Bath where contestants are given a specific location in Bath to paint “plein air”. Once they have painted their allocated scene before the competition deadline, they can enter other paintings they may have done of Bath.

In 2010 he came runner up with the painting of the Royal Crescent and in 2011 and won first prize for the best painting of the Circus in Bath.

The little girl dressed in a bright red coat (our eldest granddaughter Emily) added an important focal point to the composition. The original watercolour can be seen at the Studio & Gallery in Ponteland.

Mystical Oman

Malcolm MacGregor and Alan Reed are dislplaying their work in an exhibition named “Mystical Oman” April 6th - 2nd May 2010

Two British artists capture the unique mystical beauty of the Sultanate of Oman through the lens of photographer Malcolm MacGregor and the watercolours of Alan Reed”

Malcolm MacGregor, an international landscape photographer specialises in photographing the more remote regions of the world. In 2000 he began photographing for his book “Wilderness Oman” made over a two year period tapping into the electric mix of desert, mountain and coastal landscapes. Many of the photographs in this exhibition have not been seen before.

The wild places of Oman offer a unique sense of timelessness and solitude, a rare thing in the world today, which Alan Reed has recognised during his first visit to Oman in 2007 and has so beautifully expressed through his watercolours.

Alan Reed has been exhibiting and taking commissions for more than three decades. His work has become increasingly collectable and is wildly represented internationally through private collectors.
