Charity Art Exhibition/Making Dreams Come True
The Castlegate Centre, Melbourne Street, Newcastle upon Tyne will be the venue to host a major Art Exhibition of the work of established artist Alan Reed.
Alan Reed Art will give 20% of all sales to this amazing charity that is changing the lives of our young people and giving them opportunities that they would otherwise not have.
OWN IT was established in 1997 with the work of Richard Davies MBE at Walbottle Campus.
It is a unique work experience programme for 14 – 16 year olds who are recommended to the charity by senior members of school staff.
They ask each student “If you could leave school on Friday and start work on Monday,
” what is it more than anything else in the world that you want to do?” By focusing on the first choice of each student, OWN IT aims to make their dreams come true and want to take them seriously.
How do you motivate a 15 year old
adolescent school girl who gives one word
answers to questions, who avoids eye
contact and who is known for disruptive
class room behaviour amounting at times to
violence, to think positively about anything,
let alone the future? This is the kind of
challenge regularly faced by the skilled
mentors who work for the charity
OWN-IT. There are many young people in
the 14 to 16 age group that the education
system has found itself virtually powerless to
help, and yet OWN IT is achieving some
remarkable results in the field of “hopeless
cases” because the mentors are prepared to
establish relationships of trust in which these
apparently unteachable adolescents can
begin to express what they, deep down,
would like to do with their lives.
The exhibition preview will start in the evening on the 4th of July. It will continue every day 10am-5pm until Saturday 9th July and will feature a broad selection of Alan Reed’s paintings. If you would like to receive an invitation to the preview, then please contact on 01661 871 800 or email alan@alanreed.com.
